PAISA (NEPALESE CURRENCY)
The
Nepalese Rupee (NPR) is the official currency of Nepal, issued and controlled
by Nepal Rastra Bank. The symbol for the currency is रु (Rs), and it is subdivided into 100 paisa. Banknotes
are available in denominations of रु1,
रु2, रु5, रु10,
रु20, रु50, रु100,
रु500, and रु1000, while coins come in रु1, रु2,
रु5, and रु10. The banknotes of Nepal are
primarily made of cotton paper with a mix of cotton and linen fibers, giving
them durability and a distinct texture. This combination of materials helps
prevent wear and tear, ensuring that the notes last longer despite frequent
handling. In addition to the fabric-based material, security features such as
watermarks, security threads, and ultraviolet-sensitive inks are incorporated
into the notes to prevent counterfeiting. The currency’s value is influenced by
factors such as inflation, trade, and Nepal’s economic activities, including
remittances, agriculture, and tourism. As of March 20, 2025, the exchange rate
is approximately 1 Australian Dollar (AUD) equals 88.5 Nepalese Rupees (NPR).
